Cosmetic Surgery Cowboys Crackdown

surgeon2There seems little doubt that stricter controls in the cosmetic sector will come into force once the government has digested the recommendations in the Keogh report.

At the heart of a proper patient consultation lies fully informed consent; conveying the elements of medical and psychological assessment, treatment options, providing a realistic idea of likely outcome and possible risks is essential. For consent to really qualify as “informed consent” however, consultations must only ever be with the surgeon who will actually carry out the procedure.

The protection of the public at large is the duty of the medical profession and we need a future strategy for regulation and protection of the public.

Cosmetic surgery cowboys are only interested in making money and they have very little focus on patient safety. Results are often shoddy and we are seeing an increase in patients needing corrective surgery.
